A reliable electrical supply is important for the smooth operation of lights, fans, air conditioners, motors and other electrical loads. In installations where a three-phase mains supply is used but the connected equipment includes single-phase loads, the absence of one or more phases can affect the availability of power to those loads.

We provide an Automatic Phase Changer (APC) designed specifically for three-phase main supply systems operating single-phase loads. Our Automatic Phase Changer helps manage situations where one or two phases of the incoming three-phase supply are unavailable.

What Happens When a Phase Is Missing?

In a three-phase mains supply, different single-phase loads may be connected across the available phases. These loads can include lights, fans, single-phase air conditioners and single-phase motors. When one or more phases are missing, the loads connected to those unavailable phases may not receive the required supply. This can create interruptions in normal electrical operation and may require the supply arrangement to be managed whenever phase availability changes. This is where an automatic solution becomes useful.

Instead of depending on changes to phase availability being handled manually, our Selfguard Three Phase Automatic Phase Changer is designed to automatically manage the load according to the phases that are available.

How Selfguard Automatic Phase Changer Helps

The main function of our Automatic Phase Changer is simple and practical.

The Selfguard Three Phase Automatic Phase Changer provides output on all three phases even when only one phase or two phases of the incoming supply are present. This makes the unit particularly useful in applications where a three-phase main supply is available but the connected electrical loads are single-phase.

For example, the APC can be used where the electrical installation includes:

  • Lights
  • Fans
  • Single-phase air conditioners
  • Single-phase motors
  • Other suitable single-phase loads

The unit is installed with a three-phase main supply only and is intended specifically for three-phase main supply and single-phase load applications.

Automatic Load Shifting When the Phase Returns

Another important function of our Automatic Phase Changer is automatic load shifting. When a missing phase becomes available again, the Selfguard APC automatically shifts the load back to its original phase. This process takes place with the help of an inbuilt delay timer.

As a result, phase management takes place automatically according to the availability of the incoming supply. The system is therefore designed to provide a practical way of managing single-phase loads connected to a three-phase mains supply when phase availability changes.

Different Ratings for Different Load Requirements

Electrical installations do not all have the same load requirement. For this reason, we offer our Automatic Phase Changer in different current ratings.

Our APC is available in:

63 Amps | 100 Amps | 125 Amps | 150 Amps | 200 Amps

The selection of the correct Automatic Phase Changer is made according to the load of the mains. Choosing the appropriate rating according to the electrical load is an important part of selecting the right unit for an installation.

Choose Selfguard for Automatic Phase Management

At Selfguard Automation and Controls, we have been manufacturing electrical and electronic products related to mains, generator and agricultural automation since 1990. We use the latest microcontroller technology with the aim of producing quality products according to customer requirements.

Our Automatic Phase Changer provides a practical solution for three-phase mains installations operating single-phase loads. By providing output across all three phases when one or two incoming phases are available and automatically shifting the load back when the missing phase returns, the Selfguard APC helps simplify automatic phase management for everyday electrical applications.
